The Degree of Fellow recognizes AAFP members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to family medicine, by their advancement of health care to the American people and by their professional development through medical education and research. Fellows of the AAFP are recognized as Champions of Family Medicine. They are the physicians who make family medicine the premier specialty in service to their community and profession. From a personal perspective, being a Fellow signifies not only 'tenure' but one's additional work in your community, within organized medicine, within teaching, and a greater commitment to continuing professional development and/or research.

About Jeffrey Swanson, DO, FAAFP

I believe a physician should be a teammate with the patient in order to best serve the patient’s healthcare needs. I need to be an educator, an advisor, a friend and most of all, an intent listener. I always attempt to give my patients plenty of opportunity to express their concerns, and at the end of our encounter, I make sure to answer any questions they might have on our plan of care.

There are times that a patient may not want to have a certain test or take a certain medication, but as long as I have provided them with ample information and medical recommendations, the patient is free to accept their own preferences about their healthcare. I consider myself a guide for the patient on their healthcare journey.
