Michael Sheen, MD

Accepting New Patients
Orthopedic Surgery

Dedicated to service, communication, and professionalism, Dr. Michael Sheen is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who serves at United Regional. A fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1984, Dr. Sheen has provided a wealth of experience and expertise.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Dr. Sheen obtained his medical degree at The George Washington University in D.C. He completed his residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, the adult teaching hospital for the top-rated Washington University School of Medicine. His time in the U.S. Air Force led him to Wichita Falls, Texas, a city which he has called home for more than 35 years.

Originally intent on pediatrics, Dr. Sheen chose orthopedic surgery because it provided more immediate results and also gave him the opportunity to help children. He specializes in helping patients maintain an active lifestyle through sports medicine and also serves those who eventually find themselves needing hip and/or knee replacements.

In recent years, United Regional has become a regional leader in robotic surgery, and Dr. Sheen is excited about what this means for his patients.

Dr. Sheen emphasizes that the use of robotics in no way is an “assembly-line” procedure. Every patient is treated with individual care tailored to his or her unique anatomy. Coupled with the surgeon’s skill and expertise, the robotics system helps provide more accurate placement and alignment of the implant. “Every case is a little different,” says Dr. Sheen. “You can do a knee replacement thousands of times, but each time there’s a little bit of difference to it.”

Dr. Sheen grew up in Southeast Idaho where the Tetons and Yellowstone were his backyard. He is married and has eight children. He spends his time outside of work with his family and friends, including his 11 grandkids, and is the primary chef in his family when it comes to cooking steaks. He is a gardener at heart and enjoys spending time tending to his land. When he gets the opportunity to travel, he loves exploring Jackson Hole with his family.

One of his greatest satisfactions in life comes from helping people get better and get back to a better quality of life. He believes in treating his patients with respect, which creates a trusting environment that is critical to the patients’ health and wellbeing. Drawing from his many years of experience, Dr. Sheen builds a sense of community at United Regional through his leadership and passion for teaching and mentoring others.
